Important Colonial Discovery: Sydney Harbour by George Peacock

George Edwards Peacock — Sydney Harbour oil painting
George Edwards Peacock — Sydney Harbour, oil on canvas. A highlight of Moorabool’s Australiana sale.

A highlight of Moorabool’s Australiana sale is this oil by convict artist George Edwards Peacock — fresh to the market and rarely seen. The painting shows Sydney Harbour with Bradley’s Head, Fort Denison (“Pinchgut Island”), the distant Blue Mountains, and the shoreline of Elizabeth Bay. The viewpoint has been identified as Vaucluse, from the grounds of what is now Strickland House.
